Publication and peer review processes
Brief Overview for Reviewers: Scientific progress requires exchange and deliberation of data and ideas. Banats J Biotechnol is a journal dedicated to presenting results of scientific papers from any scientific or diferents fields in an open-access environment. Peer review of each scientific paper is rigorous and concentrates on objective and technical concerns to determine whether scientific paper has been adequately well-conceived, well executed, and well described to justify inclusion in scientific record. After publication, all scientific papers are opened up for interactive deliberations/ assessment in which whole scientific community can be involved. Once scientific paper is published in Banats J Biotechnol, broader community is then able to discuss and evaluate significance of scientific paper (through number of citations it attracts; downloads it achieves etc.). Editors and reviewers have no access to payment information, and hence ability to pay will not influence publication decisions. These policies ensure that fee is never a barrier to publication.
Criteria for Publication: To be accepted for publication in Banats J Biotechnol, scientific papers must satisfy criteria:
–Study presents results of primary scientific paper.
–Results reported have not been published elsewhere.
–Experiments, statistics/other analyses are performed to a high technical standard are described in sufficient detail.
–Conclusions are presented in an appropriate fashion and are supported by data.
–Scientific paper is presented in an intelligible fashion and is written in Standard English.
–Scientific paper meets all applicable standards for ethics of experimentation and research integrity.
–Scientific paper adheres to appropriate reporting guidelines/community standards for data availability.
Banats J Biotechnol board and any invited external peer reviewers will evaluate submissions against these criteria. To expand on each of these criteria:
Does manuscript report on primary research?
Banats J Biotechnol is designed specifically as a medium for primary, scientific paper. It is not suitable for publication of reviews, mini-reviews, opinion pieces, commentaries, essays or other items of secondary literature (unless invited for a specific purpose by Banats J Biotechnol staff). Systematic reviews and meta-analyses can be considered for publication in Banats J Biotechnol. Individual case reports are not considered for publication in Banats J Biotechnol. Papers describing results of studies involving only one individual can be considered for publication in Banats J Biotechnol if evidence is provided that paper describes results of a preplanned scientific project, rather than a description of clinical care received by an individual patient.
Have results reported been published elsewhere?
Banats J Biotechnol does not accept for publication work that has already been published elsewhere. However, studies that replicate results that are already in literature may be considered for publication in Banats J Biotechnol, as independent confirmation of results can often be valuable.
Are experiments, statistics, and other analyses performed to a high technical standard and are described in sufficientdetail?
Scientific paper must have been performed to a technical standard high enough to allow robust conclusions to be drawn from data. Methods and reagents must also be described in sufficient detail so that another researcher is able to reproduce experiments described.
Are conclusions presented in an appropriate fashion with suppositions and hypotheses identified as such?
Results must be interpreted appropriately, such that all conclusions are justified. Authors may discuss possible explanations for their results as long as these are clearly identified as assumptions or hypotheses, rather than as firm conclusions. Inadequate interpretation of results is an admissible argument for rejection.
Is scientific paper presented in an intelligible fashion and written in English?
Banats J Biotechnol staffs do not copyedit text of accepted manuscripts; it is hence relevant for work, as presented, to be intelligible. Perfect, stylish English is not essential but language must be clear and unambiguous. If language of a paper is poor, Banats J Biotechnol staff should suggest that authors seek independent help. Poor description and language is an admissible argument for rejection.
Does research meet all applicable standards with regard to ethics of experimentation and research integrity?
Scientific paper published in Banats J Biotechnol must have been conducted to highest ethical standards. Please contact Banats J Biotechnol staff (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you have queries as to whether these standards have been met.
Does scientific paper adhere to appropriate reporting guidelines and community standards for data availability?
Banats J Biotechnol aims to promote openness in scientific paper and intends that all work published in Banats J Biotechnol can be built on by future researchers. We hence demand conformity to standards for public deposition of data (i.e. gene sequences, structural studies, etc.). Other similar standards that are applicable to specific communities should also be upheld. Failure to comply with community standards is a admissible argument for rejection.
Overview of Editorial Process: Banats J Biotechnol will provide all authors with an efficient and “hassle-free” editorial process. Our aim is to identify those submissions that warrant inclusion in scientific record and present them to scientific community with as few hurdles as possible. The editorial process is run by journal’s International editorial board who work together to orchestrate peer-review process. Banats J Biotechnol staffs are invited to handle submitted manuscripts on basis of content of manuscript and their own expertise. Evaluates paper and decides whether it describes a body of work that meets editorial criteria of Banats J Biotechnol. Journal staff can employ a variety of methods, alone or in combination, to reach a decision in which they are confident:
–They can conduct peer review themselves, based on their own knowledge and experience
–They can take further advice through deliberation with other members of editorial board
–They can solicit reports from further referees
After appropriate consideration by Banats J Biotechnol staff, a decision letter to author is drafted. This letter may also be circulated to other members of editorial board, who are given a short time to comment on editorial decision. There are several types of decisions possible:
–Accept in principle
Upon acceptance, manuscript is checked by Banats J Biotechnol staff to ensure that it is in a form that will allow it to be efficiently handled by our production system. Authors will be queried and allowed to make any final minor revisions that are needed.
Reviewer Selection: Selection of reviewers for a particular manuscript is responsibility of Banats J Biotechnol staff and is based on many factors, including expertise, reputation, specific suggestations of authors and Banats J Biotechnol staff s own knowledge of a reviewer’s past performance. As part of our editorial procedure, we confer with potential reviewers before sending them manuscripts to review. Reviewers should bear in mind that even these initial messages or conversations contain confidential information, which should be regarded as such.
Using Reviewer Form: Banats J Biotechnol reviewers are asked to complete a structured reviewer form which aims to help reviewers focus on Banats J Biotechnol publication criteria and improve efficiency of peer review process. Form consists of three sections:
–Statement of Competing Interests (required). Reviewers must declare any potential or perceived competing interests that may influence their review.
–Comments to Author (required). This section includes questions about whether submission meets Banats J Biotechnol publication criteria. If reviewer has further feedback about a specific item, it may be included in optional free-text box following question. Reviewers may also raise any additional issues in a free-text response at end of form (optional). Answers to all questions in this section will be included in decision letter to author. There is also a space for reviewers to sign their name if they would like their identity to be revealed to authors and other reviewers. Banats J Biotechnol encourages transparency in peer review.
Confidential Comments to Editor (optional): In this section, reviewers may share any comments with Banats J Biotechnol staff that they do not wish to share with author. This section is optional, and we strongly encourage reviewers to include all feedback about scientific content of manuscript in “Comments to Author” section. We understand that it may not be appropriate to share some comments with authors.
Confidentiality: Review process is strictly confidential and should be treated as such by reviewers. As author may have chosen to exclude some people from this process, no one who is not directly involved with manuscript (including colleagues and other experts in field) should be consulted by reviewer unless such consultations have first been discussed with Banats J Biotechnol staff. Reviewers must not take any confidential information they have gained in review process and use it before paper is published. Even after publication, unless they have permission of authors to use other information, reviewers may only use publicly published data (i.e. contents of published scientific paper) and not information from any earlier drafts.
Timely Review: Banats J Biotechnol believes that an efficient editorial process that results in timely publication provides a valuable service both to authors and to scientific community at large.
Anonymity: Although reviewers may remain anonymous during review process, we strongly urge them to relinquish this anonymity to promote open and transparent decision-making.
Editing Reviewers’ Reports: Banats J Biotechnol staffs do not edit any comments made by reviewers that have been intended to be read by authors unless language is deemed inappropriate for professional communication or comments contain information considered confidential. Such remarks should be reserved for confidential section of review form, which is intended to be read by editors only. In their comments to authors, reviewers are encouraged to be honest but not offensive in their language. On other hand, authors should not confuse frank and perhaps even robust language with unfair criticism.
Competing Interests: As far as possible, we respect requests by authors to exclude reviewers whom they consider to be unsuitable. We also, as much as possible, try to rule out those reviewers who may have an obvious competing interest, such as those who may have been collaborators on other projects with authors of this manuscript, those who may be direct competitors, those who may have a known history of antipathy with author(s), or those who might profit financially from this paper. As it is not possible for all such competing interests to be known by a editor, we request that reviewers who recognize a potential competing interest inform editors or journal staff and recuse themselves if they feel that are unable to offer an impartial review. Read more about policy of Banats J Biotechnol regarding competing interests. Reviewers (occasion) may be asked to offer their opinion on a manuscript that they may have reviewed for some other journal. This is not in itself a competing interest.
Feedback to Reviewers: We send reviewers’ comments along with decision letter to reviewers of that manuscript. If reviewers have identified themselves, this information will be passed on to other reviewers. Reviewers who may have offered an opinion not in accordance with final decision should not feel that their suggestion was not duly considered and their service not properly appreciated. Experts often disagree, and it is job of editorial team to make a decision.
Guidelines for Comments and Corrections
Overview of Comments. Banats J Biotechnol journal Web sites provide ability for users to comment on scientific papers to facilitate community evaluation and discourse around published scientific papers.
Comments: Comments should be used to make additions or clarifications, identify and link to material, and are designed to lead to threaded deliberations concerning content, conclusions, and consequences of specific scientific papers.
Who Can Contribute? All users are able to add Comments to any scientific paper. Users are required to unambiguously identify themselves with their first and last names, their geographic location, and a valid e-mail address in order to register. First and last name and geographic location are made public, however e-mail addresses are private. The e-mail address and other registration fields that user chooses to make private will be kept strictly confidential by Banats J Biotechnol staff unless otherwise indicated. Deliberation and ratings are not anonymous. Banats J Biotechnol reserves right to suspend privileges of any registered user. Any registered user who is found to have provided false name or location information will have their account suspended and any postings deleted.
How to Add and View Corrections. Two kinds of Corrections can be posted directly to a scientific paper: Minor Corrections and Formal Corrections. Minor Corrections indicate small errors and clarifications to scientific paper, whereas Formal Corrections are reserved for errors that significantly affect utility or understanding of scientific paper. In both cases, decision to indicate a posting as a Minor or Formal Correction is responsibility of Banats J Biotechnol staff. We advise that Corrections are first written in a word-processing program that allows for spell checking before they are copied and pasted into Comment field. After Comment is reviewed, it will either stay as a Comment or be changed to a Minor Correction or Formal Correction. Once a Comment is changed to a Correction, Correction will display at bottom of main scientific paper tab. To view complete text of a Correction or citation information of a Correction, click title of Correction. Formal Corrections are also listed above title of the scientific paper. Title of Formal Correction and a link to Formal Corrections appear in this block.
Good Practice: All contributions must conform to norms of civilized scientific deliberation. Any contributions that do not meet these standards will be removed. Any users who consistently transgress these conventions will have their user privileges removed. A list of deliberation standards includes following:
–Language that is insulting, inflammatory, or obscene will not be tolerated.
–Unsupported assertions or statements should be avoided. Comments must be evidence-based, not authority-based.
–When previously published studies are cited, they must be accurately referenced and, where possible, a DOI and link to a publicly accessible version supplied.
–Unpublished data should be provided with sufficient methodological detail for those data to be assessed. Alternatively, a permanent Web link to such information should be provided.
–Arguments based on belief are to be avoided, i.e. assertion, “I don’t believe results in Figure 1.” must be supported.
–Deliberations should be confined to demonstrable content of scientific papers and should avoid speculation about motivations or prejudices of authors.
–Questions about experimental data are appropriate, but need to be phrased in a way that does not imply any misconduct on part of authors. If a reader is concerned about potential misconduct, such concerns must always be raised with senior editorial staff at Banats J Biotechnol.
Banats J Biotechnol is final arbiter of suitability of content for inclusion in Banats J Biotechnol Web sites.
Requesting Review of Inappropriate Content: We encourage you to request review of a Comment you believe to be inappropriate using “Request review”. Indicate why content should be reviewed (“Spam,” “Offensive,” “Inappropriate,” or “Other”). Banats J Biotechnol staff will investigate content, which may involve consulting external experts if necessary. Any content that Banats J Biotechnol staffs deem to be inappropriate will be removed. Any users who consistently post inappropriate material will have their user privileges removed. If any contribution is removed, all subsequent responses along its thread will also be removed. Banats J Biotechnol is final arbiter of the suitability of content for inclusion in Banats J Biotechnol Web sites.
Editorial policies: Any manuscripts or substantial parts of it, submitted to the journal must not be under consideration by any other journal. In general, the manuscript should not have already been published in any journal or other citable form, although it may have been deposited on a preprint server. Authors are required to ensure that no material submitted as part of a manuscript infringes existing copyrights, or the rights of a third party. Authors who publish in Banats J Biotechnol retain copyright to their work.
Correspondence concerning articles published in Banats J Biotechnol is encouraged: Submission of a manuscript to Banats J Biotechnol implies that all authors have read and agreed to its content, and that any experimental research that is reported in the manuscript has been performed with the approval of an appropriate ethics committee [Helsinki Declaration and Basel Declaration Society (3Rs)]. Research carried out on humans must be in compliance with the Helsinki Declaration, and any experimental research on animals must follow internationally recognized guidelines. A statement to this effect must appear in the Methods section of the manuscript, including the name of the body which gave approval, with a reference number where appropriate. Informed consent must also be documented. Manuscripts may be rejected if the editorial office considers that the research has not been carried out within an ethical framework, e.g. if the severity of the experimental procedure is not justified by the value of the knowledge gained.

Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement: The publication of a paper in a peer reviewed journal is an essential model for our journal Banats J Biotechnol. It is necessary to agree upon standards of expected ethical behavior for all parties involved in act of publishing: author, journal editorial staff, peer reviewer and publisher. Our ethic statements are based on COPE’s Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors. (Declaration of Helsinki, updated 2004–available at: www.wma.net/e/policy/b3.htm; Ethics Committee for conducting research, Experiments should be conducted in accordance with European Communities Council Directive 86/609/EEC or with Guidelines of U.S. Public Health Service and NIH regarding care and use of animals for experimentation).
Publication decisions: The editorial board of Banats J Biotechnol is responsible for deciding which of papers submitted to journal should be published. The editorial staff may be guided by policies of journal’s editorial board and constrained by such legal requirements as shall then be in force regarding libel, copyright infringement and plagiarism. The editorial board of Banats J Biotechnol may confer with other editors or reviewers in making this decision.
Fair play: Editorial staffs at any time evaluate item manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of authors.
Confidentiality: The editorial board of Banats J Biotechnol must not disclose any information about a submitted item manuscript to anyone other than corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and publisher, as appropriate.
Disclosure and conflicts of interest: Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted item manuscript must not be used in an editor’s own research without express written consent of author.
Duties of Reviewers: Contribution to Editorial Decisions: Peer review assists editorial staff in making editorial board of Banats J Biotechnol decisions and through editorial communications with author may also assist author in improving paper. All papers submitted to Banats J Biotechnol are critically assessed by external and/or in-house experts (One of our editorial staff that has knowledge of field discussed in item manuscript) in accordance with principles of Peer Review http://www.icmje.org. This first step takes place entirely in-house.
Promptness: Any selected referee who feels unqualified to review research reported in an item manuscript or knows that its prompt review will be impossible should notify editorial board of Banats J Biotechnol and excuse himself from review process.
Confidentiality: Any item manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with others except as authorized by editorial board of Banats J Biotechnol.
Standards of Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of author is inappropriate. Referees should express their views clearly with supporting arguments. It is also appropriate for reviewer to direct all statements about item manuscript (e.g., “This manuscript suffers from a lack of attention to detail”) rather than about authors (e.g., “The authors should have paid more attention to detail”).
Acknowledgement of Sources: Reviewers should identify relevant published study that has not been cited by authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument had been previously reported should be accompanied by relevant citation. A reviewer should also call to editorial board of Banats J Biotechnol, attention any substantial similarity or overlap between item manuscript under consideration and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge.
Disclosure and Conflict of Interest: Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Reviewers of Banats J Biotechnol should not consider item manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of authors, companies, or institutions connected to papers. The reviewer Banats J Biotechnol serves two major functions. First function is to judge whether item manuscript merits publication (currently after revisions) by providing a global rating–that is, “Accept”, “Accept Pending Revisions”, “Reconsider After Major Revisions” or “Reject”. The second role is to provide constructive criticisms for authors, regardless of whether item manuscript is deemed acceptable for eventual publication. Many reviewers capably fulfil first task but could perform more ably in second capacity–that is, to also serve as an advisor. After assessing various components of item manuscript, reviewer can perform a useful service by providing a summary statement. Reviewer should determine if item manuscript is a substantial addition to literature or if it simply substantiates previously reported studies. The reviewer should also decide whether item manuscript has overall value given its flaws, if any. However, reviewer should not provide global rating for item manuscript in this summary.
Evaluating scientific papers: The editorial board of Banats J Biotechnol believes to transparent and toughest ”Advanced OPEN peer review” system. In order to reduce the burden on reviewers, papers that are clearly not suitable for publication in transactions may be rejected by editorial board. Manuscripts submitted to transactions of the Banats J Biotechnol normally receive two independent peer reviews. Banats J Biotechnol policy requires that no fewer than two peer reviews be conducted. The editorial board needs to find no fewer than two independent reviewers who accept to review manuscript by the agreed deadline. The editorial board is encouraged to obtain at least three independent reviewers to facilitate decisions in cases with mixed reviews. Identity of authors and reviewers will be revealed to each other during this review process. This clear process will help to annihilate any adaptable mischievous /knowingly interference by any person (publishing staff, reviewer, editor, author, etc.) during peer review. As an outcome of this unique system all reviewers will get their due recognition and respect, once their names are published with papers. If reviewers do not want to reveal their identities, editorial board of Banats J Biotechnol will honour that request. In that case only the review summary will be published as ”anonymous reviewer report”. Furthermore ”Advanced OPEN peer review” greatly helps in ”continuity and progress of science”. The editorial board of Banats J Biotechnol believe that all files related to peer review of a manuscript are valuable and hold a significantly place in continuity and progress of science. If editors publish the peer review summary along with published papers, this process can result in savings of manyhours of future authors during experiments, manuscript preparation, etc. by minimizing the common errors after interpreting these firstly published peer review summary. So, as per our official policy update, if manuscript is published, all peer review summary will be available to readers. All files (like original manuscript, comments of reviewers, revised manuscript, and editorial comment (if any)) related to peer review, will be available in “Review history” link along with published paper. Moreover, editorial board of Banats J Biotechnol believes that one of targetsof peer review system is ”to enhance the quality of a candidate manuscript”. Evidently editorial board of Banats J Biotechnol try to publish ‘average marks (out of 10)’ a manuscript received at initial peer review stage and at final publication stage to record its history of improvement during peer review. This process further increases transparency. It is more significantly to record honestly the ”strengthsand weaknessesof a manuscript”. Therefore, these transparent processes (i.e. publication of review history files and scores of a particular manuscript) extra give a clear idea of strength and weakness of a published work to the readers, which enhances chances of proper use of result of a research (and or reduces chances of misuse of weakness of findings of the work). Thus this transparent process may prove to be highly useful for society in long run.

Banats J Biotechnol reviewers should instead simply choose rating in separate portion of review form provided to them. Duties of Authors
Reporting standards: Authors of summary of original research should present an accurate account of study performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Underlying data should be represented accurately in paper. A paper should contain sufficient detail and references to permit others to replicate study. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical action and are unacceptable.
Data Access and Retention: Authors are asked to provide raw information in connection with a paper for editorial review, and should be prepared to provide public access to such data, if feasible, and should in any event be prepared to retain such data for an acceptable time after publication.
Originality and Plagiarism: The authors should ensure that they have written entirely original paper, and if authors have used study and/or words of others that this has been appropriately cited or quoted.
